Austin Tx Looks at BPL

TCRC CN7 and Open Space Austin Summit

Thursday, April 28:

1:30 pm Panel Session 2
Track 1 - "Broadband of Power Line - Capabilities and Cost"

Fundamentals of BPL, including utility network management, local ISP service, and realistic analysis of costs per customer and expandability.

Randall Jones, City Manager, Weimar, Texas
Michael Linberg, Director of Development, Internet America

Expandability? Yeah, that's what we need.

4:00 pm Panel Session 4 - "Community BPL & Wireless – Practical Business Models"

Even powerful technologies have to make economic sense for local leaders. Do BPL and wireless offer realistic, sustainable bandwidth for your community?

Randall Jones, City Manager, Weimar, Texas

There are six hams in Weimar, Texas who hold current licenses. I wonder how they feel about their city manager pumping BPL? Six isn't very much clout, especially now that our benevolent FCC has signaled that they are going to ignore ham complaints about BPL interference.
