Battery Power

Haven't been doing much lately, a situation I blame on cold weather and a cranky battery in the truck (cranky -get it?). The battery wasn't holding enough charge to permit operating without running the engine, with the attendant ignition noise, which made operating less than pleasant. I had decided to get a new battery, as soon as the budget would allow. That was kind of dragging on, as budget items do. It seems higher priority items always pop up.

This morning, though, the battery made the decision for me and refused to start the truck. I jump started and stopped off at Wal-Mart and bought a new battery, which surprisingly was at no charge since the old one was still in warranty. So much for waiting on the budget.

I always like to jump back in in a big way if I can, and my first contact with the new battery installed was on 18.140 MHz, VP6DX on Ducie Island in the Pitcairns. He had a strong signal and I got him on my second call.
