I am interested in getting some 6 meter contacts, and spend a lot of my radio time listening to the lower end of 6 these days. Like the other bands, conditions are mostly pretty bad, but occasionally you can hear some good DX on the band.
A few days ago I was tuning around the CW portion and heard the K0KP beacon on 50.073, from Duluth, MN. This is called the "aurora beacon" because its northern location positions it in a good spot for auroral openings. It was pretty loud here in Texas for a while, but without any auroral modulation so I suppose it was a sporadic-E opening.
This morning when the band sounded mostly dead I heard WP4O in Tampa calling CQ on CW at 50.101 MHz. He faded before I could give him a call.
I will keep listening to 6, I had a little success on 6 right after I got my IC7000 ( a year ago already), and I am looking to get a few grid squares in the log. VUCC maybe?
